1. Starting with number 1 is the beautiful city of Merida. It is located in the Yucatan Peninsula and is the home for many tourists and expats. It is known for its deep roots in Mayan culture and is full of historical places to visit. It has the lowest crime rate in all of Mexico.


2. Number 2 is Puerto Vallarta. Located on the Pacific Ocean side of Mexico, it is also known to be the most gay friendly city in Mexico. Beautiful sandy beaches and amazing things to do like, whale watching, and kite surfing, it is a great place to consider spending your winters.


3. Coming in at number 3 is La Paz. Located in the state of Baja California Sur and surrounded by the Sierra De La Laguna mountain range it is considered one of the most beautiful scenic cities to live in. Being able to swim or surf in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico is a plus as well as visiting Isla Espiritu Santo Island which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.


4. Sayulita which is in the state of Nayarit has a stunningly beautiful town square with festive and colorful flags decorating the city streets. What once was a small sleepy fishing village is now the home to artists, yogis, hippies and surfers. The Pacific Ocean creates ideal waves for the surfers in town and you can enjoy watching them tackle their next curl.


5. Last of our top 5 is San Miguel de Allende which is ranked among one of the best expat cities in Mexico to live. Colorful buildings and cobblestone streets makes this one of the most charming cities in Mexico. This city resides in the state of Guanajuato and is also on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. With a large expat community, English local's are easy to find making it easier to transition into the country if you are from the USA or Canada.
